About us
Our Beginnings
The journey of PSP traces back to 1971 when the Potato Board of SA recognised a unique and isolated mountainous area ideal for potato seed multiplication. Initiated by Jakkie Mellet Snr and Susan Mellet in their kitchen, PSP evolved from a government endeavor into a thriving family legacy driven by principles of quality and innovation. In 2003, Jakkie Mellet Jnr and family took over, propelling PSP to new heights and diversifying its agricultural pursuits under one comprehensive banner.
Celebrating Our Quality
As one of South Africa’s premier producers, PSP annually generates around 2 million potato mini tubers and 60 000 bags of Generation 2 seed. Situated on the Long Tom Pass, our farm boasts the highest seed potato and greenhouse tuber production facility in the country at 2100 meters above sea level, ensuring isolation and ideal conditions for superior seed production of various varieties.
Optimal Growing Conditions
Our unique setting offers cool summers, cold winters, and legal isolation from other farms, creating an unmatched environment for seed potato production. This advantage has also enabled us to expand into cultivating kiwi fruit.
Strong Partnerships
PSP maintains pivotal collaborations with key institutions, including:
Embracing our roots and leveraging our partnerships, PSP stands as a beacon of quality and innovation in agriculture, dedicated to nurturing the land, our people, and the communities we serve.
