Where It All Began

Nestled in a secluded valley, 100 km west of Lydenburg, Ortus Boerdery benefits from its isolation and moderate winters, providing an ideal setting for our diverse agricultural ventures, optimising the growth of a variety of crops throughout the year, including potato seeds, seed maize, seed beans, soybeans, sugar beans, and lucerne.

What We Do

The Peak of Excellence and Tradition in Seed Farming

Potato Seeds

In our farm’s unique climate, we efficiently grow quality potato seeds. Our usage of rich soil, clean water, and advanced drone care ensures high-quality seeds. We use mini tubers sourced from PSP to build a pipeline of 4.5ha G1 and 30ha G2.

Maize and Seed Beans

Leveraging our farm’s unique geographic advantages and our skilled labour force’s dedication, Ortus Boerdery also specialises in the cultivation of top-tier maize and bean seed varieties, ensuring premium quality seeds for the industry.

Lucerne Grass Initiative

Our lucerne cultivation caters not only to our game at Takkraal but also fulfills the supplementation needs of various game and stock owners. This initiative allows us to produce green bales year-round thanks to the region’s mild winters.

Takkraal Hunters Lodge

Ortus Boerdery proudly introduces Takkraal Hunters Lodge, an embodiment of the bushveld spirit designed for memorable hunting expeditions and tranquil nature getaways. The lodge can accommodate up to 12 guests in a 2-story self-catering wooden house, complete with a spacious deck and lapa for evenings around the fire.

Activities: From hunting to game viewing, our experienced guides ensure a personalised and unforgettable experience in the wild. Takkraal Hunters Lodge is also open for mountain biking and trail running.
